The rise of bellydancing or oriental dancing in Belgium started in the beginning of the eighties.
Middle Eastern Dance was introduced by the immigrant community of North Africa and also from Middle Eastern countries such as Lebanon. The undulations of Tribal style and Bollywood style wasn't yet popular in the beginning of the eighties and before bellydance was performed mainly in the immigrant communities, in the so called oriental cabarets. Those boundaries are finally broken and those sister dance styles are more and more becoming accepted by the international belly dance community.
New styles emerged and Fusion bellydance, Gothic bellydance, American Tribal Style (ATS), Bollywood and other cross-over bellydance styles spread around the globe from East-Coast to Japan and from New Zealand to Iceland.
